After the huge success of our first festival at Nottingham Playhouse in 2018, we presented another celebratory week of world-class theatre, dance, poetry, workshops, comedy and cabaret in 2019.
Our stages and spaces will be exploding with excitement, energy and equality - fuelled by the power of story, theatre, art and debate.

In 2019 - our festival was bigger, better and bolder than our first -
with more shows and more visitors who were new to theatre. We brought brilliant shows, new writing and work in progress to Nottingham and opened our doors as part of the Festival Open House - so that audiences could see extracts of work and discuss issues that arose with the artists.
And as ever - our After Party brought the house down!
2018 Festival
Drawing on autobiographical experience, Lost in Labour wryly explores the relationship between the rhythms of work, labour and leisure and the indelible effect on identity and the physical self.

Filled with humour, heart and hard facts, ‘Temporary’ explores the social and political reasons for the surge in households in temporary accommodation. What does it mean to be housed in temporary accommodation? How do you end up there? And once you’re there, how ‘temporary’ is it really?
SEXY uses truthful wit and clever verse to explore our conflicted relationship with our bodies and sexiness, exploring our obsession with what is sexy through comedy, spoken word, dance and various states of undress.
A call-to-action workshop that weaves the story of the suffragettes, with contemporary voting matters. Your vote is powerful and fragile, because too many of us choose not to use it. Learn why women like Emily Wilding Davison campaigned so hard for us to be able to have our say at the ballot box.
Words emerge and stories unfold through layers of intricate movement, crumpling paper and failed attempts.
Inky Matter is a solo performance inspired by letters – the ones we have written and received, but also those that remain unwritten. Those letters that we can’t, won’t or never quite get round to writing…what happens to them?
What does it mean to be a woman? What does it mean to fall in love?
Movement improvisation, visual imagery, garbage film and devised text, creates a contemporary adaptation that dives into female sexuality, queer identity and homophobia.

From wombs to graves, motherlands to Trini dads, Mellow Baku delivers a potent, captivating performance, inviting the audience to explore what home means. Influenced by African and Caribbean ancestry, Soon Come [. . .] Home is inspired by migration toward and away from what we call ‘Home’.
OPEN HOUSE
a free event to meet, mingle, listen, talk, laugh, and cry (if you want to), while we discuss, create and wrestle with some key questions about what is important in getting diverse female stories on stage.

Combining comedy, storytelling, music, and games, this show of wuthering delights is a delight for literature aficionados, theatre fans – and of course every devoted Brontëphile!
Every Party needs an AFTER PARTY!
And this one is open to all - so dust off your sparkly light up shoes,and dance along to the amazing Fan Club ladies playing the best party tunes till the early hours of the morning!
In March 2018 we celebrated with six days of awesome artists and companies offering performances, workshops, discussions, a scratch night (showcasing new work in development), and a late night afterparty hosted by Nottingham’s finest: Fan Club!
We took over Nottingham Playhouse, and filled every nook with laughter, maybe some tears (we’ll cry if we want to), world-class theatre, comedy and cabaret!
We will be back May 14 - 18 2019 with another amazing week of world-class theatre, dance, poetry, workshops, comedy and cabaret.
